Dr Abdullah M Assiri is the Assistant Deputy Minister for Preventive Health in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
He is also a consultant in internal medicine and infectious disease at the King Fahad Medical City in Riyadh.
Previous positions held by Dr Assiri include Director-General for Infection Prevention and Control at the Ministry of Health and Advisor to the Deputy Minister of Public Health.
He was also a consultant in internal medicine and infectious disease for the armed forces and the National Guard.
Dr Assiri’s fields of professional concentration include infectious diseases, infection control, public health and epidemiology.
Other current professional activities and positions of Dr Assiri include Fellow of the American College of Physicians,
Since 2010 he also chairs the National Infection Control Committee and is a member of the National Committees on AIDS, Immunization, tuberculosis, Decontamination Services and of the Scientific Committee for the International Conference on Mass Gatherings.
Dr Assiri is currently the representative of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to the Executive Board of the World Health Organization and is a member of the IHR Emergency Committee concerning Middle East respiratory syndrome coronavirus (MERS-CoV).
